Towards a Synodal and Missionary Church

Vision 2030

A Vision for Tomorrow

This document presents the orientations discerned by the Archdiocese of Montreal for the implementation of the Synod on Synodality, extending until 2030.

"Facing contemporary challenges, our Church is called to a profound missionary transformation. This vision invites us to walk together, welcoming diversity as a treasure and placing God's Word at the heart of our community life."

— Archbishop Christian Lépine, Archbishop of Montreal

The 5 Pillars of Our Vision

A Church called to transform itself

Synodal

Walking together, laity and clergy, in mutual listening and communal discernment. A Church where every voice counts and contributes to the common mission.

Welcoming

A cultural conversion of hospitality that embraces diversity. Creating spaces where every person feels recognized, heard and valued.

Co-responsible

Shared leadership among all the baptized. Developing participatory structures where each person exercises their baptismal responsibility.

Renewed by the Word

Placing Holy Scripture at the heart of all community and personal life. Forming disciples nourished by the living Word of God.

Engaged in Solidarity

Missionary boldness turned toward the world. Engaging concretely for social justice, ecology and service to the most vulnerable.

4 Axes of Conversion

The transformations necessary for our Church

1

Conversion of Relationships

Transform our ways of being in relationship, prioritizing listening, dialogue and recognition of the dignity of each person.

2

Conversion of Processes

Review our methods of decision-making and governance to better integrate consultation and communal discernment.

3

Intercultural Exchange

Value the richness of different cultures present in our diocese and foster intercultural dialogue as a source of mutual enrichment.

4

Missionary Formation

Develop integrated formation that prepares all the baptized to be credible witnesses of the Gospel in today's world.

5 Priorities for Action

Concrete orientations for missionary transformation

1

Sunday Experience

Revitalize the Eucharistic celebration as the source and summit of Christian life, with particular attention to welcome, homily and active participation.

2

Integrated Formation

Offer formation pathways that touch all dimensions of the person: spiritual, intellectual, human and pastoral.

3

Conversion of Welcome

Develop a culture of radical hospitality, where every person — regardless of origin or situation — feels recognized and valued.

4

Shared Leadership

Promote co-responsibility by developing governance structures that truly integrate laity and clergy in decision-making.

5

Missionary Boldness

Step out of our comfort zones to encounter the world, witness to the Gospel with creativity and engage for justice.
